La Mano Fria Report 1 was the exhibition held in Tokyo's epicenter of activity known as Shibuya back in August 5th of 2005. The gallery is known as Uplink Factory and it houses not only a gallery but a restaurant, performance space, and small cinema. The concept of this exhibition was based around the newsletter often found inside the Botanica del Jibaro records. Like the newsletter that used the music to spread a message, the exhibition used paintings to convey a
message of the struggles and hope for a victory to the foreign and internal oppression that has kept Latin America's growth stunted for over 500 years since the first European invaders arrived. The symbols of weapons are not a call for violence but rather a demonstration of
despair and people being forced to defend themselves to the extreme. The main message is, Third world Unite! This exhibition later was moved to Iida, Japan at the New Roots City gallery/shop on November 22, 2005. |
